AOD-9604 is a synthetic peptide fragment corresponding to amino acids 177–191 of the C-terminal region of human growth hormone (hGH), modified with a tyrosine residue at the N-terminus. CAS 221231-10-3, molecular formula C₇₈H₁₂₃N₂₃O₂₃S₂, molecular weight 1817.12 g/mol. The compound was initially developed by researchers at Metabolic Pharmaceuticals (Melbourne, Australia).
AOD-9604 was designed to isolate the lipolytic properties of hGH from its anabolic and insulin-like effects. Unlike intact hGH, AOD-9604 does not interact with the insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) axis or produce significant anabolic effects in cell culture studies, making it a useful selective tool for studying hGH-associated metabolic mechanisms in isolation. Research applications include studies of adipocyte lipid metabolism, fat cell differentiation, β3-adrenergic receptor-independent lipolytic signaling, and comparative hGH fragment pharmacology.
