ARA-290 is a synthetic 11-amino acid cyclic peptide derived from the helix B surface of erythropoietin (EPO). CAS 1208319-26-9, molecular weight approximately 1884 g/mol. The compound was designed to interact selectively with the innate repair receptor (IRR) — a heterodimer of the EPO receptor and the common beta chain (βcR) — without activating the classical hematopoietic EPO receptor homodimer.
This selectivity profile makes ARA-290 a useful tool for dissecting EPO's pleiotropic receptor biology. Research applications include investigations of innate repair receptor signaling, neuroprotection and neuroinflammation models, Schwann cell biology, cytokine regulation, and pain pathway modulation at the cellular level. Studies have examined its effects on mitochondrial membrane potential, apoptotic signaling cascades, and inflammatory mediator production in cell culture systems.
